One of the most common questions I get from people who have passed the basic level certification is…what’s next? Should I go straight to Advanced or should I do Payroll next?
Well, I’m afraid you’re not going to like the answer. Like so many things, IT DEPENDS.
The key thing it really depends on is how you found the basic certification.
If the basic cert was easy for you…
If you found the Basic certification course easy peasy, maybe because you have some background in QBO already or because you just naturally pick things up quickly, then you’re probably good to plow straight into the Advanced course and get it done.
If the basic cert was hard for you…
If, on the other hand, you really struggled with the Basic certification, and you feel like you need a break, then the Payroll course is probably your best option. The Payroll course is significantly different and much easier to wrap your head around–so it’s a good “brain break.”

What about CleanUp?
If you’re wanting to take the CleanUp course, then we highly recommend you be Advanced certified. CleanUp is an advanced course, and we expect you to know all the ins and outs of QBO–Corry’s not going to teach them to you.
Payroll is also recommended primarily so you know how liability accounts work, since that is one of things you’ll be cleaning up.
